New/Younger Members

Post  kain100 on Sat Sep 12, 2009 10:38 am

Hi,

I heard about the club through soneone my dad knows. I'm no experienced cyclist, but I've had a giant scr road bike for over a year now. I've been out quite a few times but never very far out of town.

I'm 18 and I would be interested in getting involved if there are more like-minded people of around my age.

Any information would be great!

You would be more than welcome to join the club. We are trying to encourage younger members to take up cycling. The best way to start would be to join the club runs at the weekend. These start at 9am on Saturday and Sunday from The Templemore sports complex.

To gauge what level you are at it may help to let us know how much cycling you currently do. The Saturday run is normally between 40 -50 miles but people often opt for a slightly shorter route.

I am one of the coaches in the club and would be able to offer advice if you required it.

Regards

Peter

Hi Peter,

Thanks for the prompt reply. I'm currently not doing any cycling really, and didn't do as much this summer as I would have liked. I actually wish I'd found this forum over the summer holidays!

I couldn't say how many miles I've done to be honest, but I don't think I've ever done near 50 miles. A typical short route that i used to do was from my house (Limavady road) by drumahoe to eglinton and back up the main road. I've also ventured out the road towards carrigans/st.johnston but not as far as lifford. It was usually just a confidence thing - if I'd had someone/people with me I could probably have gone further.

I wouldn't say I'm super-fit by any means but I run the two bridges occasionally and around the waterside to keep fit.

Any recommendations would be appreciated

Thanks

Kain

I have sent you a PM.
If you want to give me a call I can talk you through what the club does and some of the plans for the future. We would be keen to get more younger riders into the club and hopefully in 2010 this will become a reality.

Look forward to talking to you

Regards

Peter..
